Mr Eric Russell, of Invercargill, arrived in Dunedin to-day. Mr Thomas Watson, of Invercargill, was a through passenger for Chiistchurch by the express this morning. The following are the successful candidates for the Government examination for shorthand typists (names in order of merit:—Senior —D. Paterson, A. M. Keast. R. M. Brooks, R. Hutchison, H. W. Campbell, L. E. Myers. Junior—M. C. Harriot, R. Hutchison, S. M. Jacobsen, V. M'lntosh, M. A. Simpson, J. Eadie, J. C. Millis. The death occurred at Greymouth on Wednesday last of Captain William Sarsfiekl Colclough, M.B.E. The deceased, who was in his sixty-third year, had resided in Greymouth since 1013, when be was appointed to ih© charge of the West Coast Area of the Cnnter-bury-Westland Military District. He was born at Panmure, near Auckland, and as a young man hold the post of curator to the Canterbury Museum at Christchurch. He was prominent in Christchurch Volunteer'circles, whence he joined the Defence Department as a sergeant-major, being later promoted to the charge of the West Const Area. For services rendered during the tsar he was made a member of the Order of the British Empire. On his retirement on pension lie entered business on bis own account, and was appmnted secretary to the Grey Patriotic Association, and also to the Greymouth Club. Ho was unmarried, and is survived bv one sister, Mrs Hannon Wilson, of Invercargill. The body was brought to Dunedin for interment.
