THE BATTERSBY SHOOTING THE WIFE’S STORY. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. ADELAIDE, December -21. Both Battersby and his wife are m i serious condition, but the chih l expected to recover. Mrs Battersby states that she was awakened by the sound nf a shot, and saw her husband in the bedroom Sue went to the cot where the child was asleep, and found that it had been shot. She then received a bullet wound in the face. Her husband then went m the direction of the room _ where t.ie two other sons were sleeping. 1 hey had been awakened bv the snote. and ran to their parents. They entered the front room, and the mother followed and locked the door. Later they nenrd a shot, then all was quiet. When the police arrived they ton ml Battersby on the floor of the kitchen, with a revolver at his side. No reason is known for the tragedy.

[A previous message stated: John Alfred Battersby and his wife and young son were found shot at their home in North Croydon. All were sent lo hospital with bullet wounds in their heads and bodies.]
