The Hon. D. T. Fleming was a through passenger by tho north express this morning for Christchurch. Bishop Richards returned to Dunedin this morning from the south. Mr R. S. Forsyth, tho London manager for the Meat Control Board, arrived in Dunedin this morning from Gore. Later ho went on to Palmerston, where he will address a meeting of farmers to-night. Mr Forsyth will return to Dunedin to-morrow, and will remain hero over the Christmas holidays. Mr G. F. Mac Lean, resident engineer to the Marlborough Electric Power Board, and Mrs Mac Lean are paying a visit to Dunedin. Mr and Mrs H. S. Bingham loft by to-day’s express, en route to Auckland and Now Plymouth. At the close of tho service at the Caversham Baptist Church on Sunday evening Mr W. Wright, M.A., on behalf of the church, presented the Rev. Eric Evans with a substantial gilt in recognition of his appointment as pre-sident-elect of the Baptist Union of New Zealand. Miss E. M. Calder, who has severed her connection with tho Mornington School, after being there for twentyfive years, was the recipient of several presents. From tho teachers and tho members of the school committee she received a string of amber beads, a blouse case, and a handbag; Iran the past pupils a tortoiseshell toilet outfit; and from tho present pupils a tortoiseshell manicure set and a crystal scent bottle. Complimentary references to Miss Calder’s faithful service and her conscientious work were made by the Rev. S. J. Cooper (chairman of the school committee) and Mr Rutherford (head master). The presentations on behalf of the past and present pupils were made by Miss Williamson and Miss F. Turnbull respectively. At the Grand Hotel are Mr and Miss Walduck (London), Mr B. Dyson Wellington), Messrs E. A. Adams, E. G. Ferrier, A. G. Henderson, and A. E. Armstrong (Christchurch), and Mr A. H. Mackrell (Invercargill). Now visitors to Dunedin accommodated at the Hotel Carlton are Mr T. E. Barry (Christchurch) and Mr A. Latta (Owaka). The following names comprise the latest list of guests at the Excelsior Hotel:—Mr A. Wood (Melbourne), Mr J. W. Gordon (Waibi), Mr M. B. Stevenson (Wellington), Mrs and Miss Catherwood (Christchurch). Visitors quartered at the City Hotel include Mr K. Ross (Wellington), Messrs D. Reese and C. M. Brnco (Christchurch ), Mr I. Schrader (Timaru), Mr H. T. Little (Canterbury), Mr J. R. Little (Glenorohy), Mr P. Enrose (Rahahuri), Mrs S. Spain (Earnscleugh), and Miss M. Dwan (Tapanui). A New York cable states that the University of Toronto will confer the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws on Air Bruce when he visits Toronto on January 4. The vacancy on the Wellington Education Board due to the death of Air Fred. Pirani has been filled by the election of Air C. H. W. Nicolls.—Press Association.
