PATRONAL FESTIVAL

BT. MARTIN'S CHURCH SOCIAL, Th« forty-sixth patronal festival of St. Martin’s Church, North-east Valley, was continued last night, when people connected with the church met socially in the Millar Street Hall. Pretty colored paper streamers and lamp shades decorated the hall. The Rev. K. D. Andrews-Baxter, the vicar, presided. He stated that St. Martin, their patron saint, had been a fighter and a charitable man. He thought the saint’s characteristics were in St. Martin’s Church. The patronal festival had begun last Sunday week, with the confirmation service, when the Bishop confirmed sixty-two candidates. On Sunday those sixty-two confirmed and others—l 22 persons in all—had attended church at 8 a.m. to take communion. The Bishop’s wonderful adgrttsses had inspired the people of St. Martin’s, who were right out to work for God.

The Chairman then introduced the Rev. A. Anstice, of the North-east Valley Baptist Cnurch, and apologised for the Rev, Miller, of the Presbyterian Church.

The Rev. Anstice thanked the vestry for -the invitation to attend. He referred to the kindness of St. Martin’s vicar, and to the church’s splendid accession of young life. All the churches would fight for God, he said, and quoted loyalty, devotion, and love as a fine trio of words to help them in their efforts for good. An- excellent programme of musical items was provided, and dancing, cards, , and games were indulged -'in. Ladies of the congregation supplied refreshments.
