UNCLE SAM'S PRETTIEST DAUGHTER
PREFERS A COOKING STOVE TO A HUSBAND. Miss Norma Smallwood, recently awarded the prize for the most per-fectly-formed woman in the United States in a beauty competition hold at Atlantic City, has been offered a husband and a cooking stove since she was acclaimed as Miss America of 1926, She refused the husband, but took the stove. “ Cooking stoves,” she said, “ are often essential, but husbands—well; at least they are not absolutely essential just now.” A college professor who had seen her picture m the newspapers had sent her a proposal.
