The Hon. W. Downie Stewart, Acting Prime Minister, arrived from the north on Saturday night, and has taken up residence at his private house m Henot row for about ton days or a fortnight. To-morrow night the Hon. Mr Stewart will attend the meeting to be held in connection with the jubilee celebrations of the establishment cf Knox Church, and will he ono of the principal speakers. Through the week Mr Stewart has a number of engagements to attend, and hopes to remain in town to visit the Summer Show next .week. Sir William Sim left for Invercargill to-day to conduct the quarieriy sittings of the Supreme Court there. Mr P. R- Sargood left by the 11.30 train this morning, bound for Wellington. ’ , , . . . Mr Robert Foster went by tram to Christchurch to-day. Dr John Dickie came up from Invercargill this morning. Mr James Hogg started this morning on a business trip to Auckland. Dr T. M'Kihbin is making a short visit to Dunedin, and proposes to go north to-morrow. „ , ~ Mr H. Allen, secretary of the Masonic Hall Company in Wellington, started for home this morning after a few days in Dunedin. , Three young priests who have Just finished their ecclesiastical course at Holy Cross College, Mosgiel, were passengers by the 11.30 train to-day the Rev. V. IM'Glono for Wellington, the Rev. J. M'Kay for Ashburton, the Rev. 0. Evans for Auckland. The mayor (Mr H. L. Tapley, M.P.) and the town clerk (Mr G. A. Lcwin) Wont to Waipori to-day on business connected with the corporation works there. ■ , , Staying at the Grand Hotel are Messrs W. Cave and C. C. Gillhara (Sydney), Mr W. H.
