FOOTBALLERS’ SMOKO

TECHNICAL COLLEGE OLD BOYS

Tho annual smoke concert of the Technical College Old Boys’ Association Football Chib was held in the Savor Lounge last evening. Mr Thomas Scott (vice-president) occupied the chair. ... Mr J. B. Berry, in proposing the toast of “The College,” made reference to the benefits many of those present had received in their connection with the school.. At one time they had looked upon the teachers as hard taskmakers, but later on . had found them to ho their best friends and supporters. Mr W. G. Aldridge, the new principal, in reply, thanked the chib tor electing him as their president. Ho had witnessed their last game of the season, and, although tho club was not successful in winning the match, he was firmly convinced that they had played well. (Applause.) As far as the college was concerned, ho had only recently arrived amongst them, and the college had made a name for itself long before that, but it would, bo his earnest endeavor to further its interest and scope. In making himself known to citizens he had found that the college was regarded as a valued institution, and was held in tho highest esteem. (Applause.) The toast of “ The Management Gunmittee ” was proposed by Mr R. Hector, who said that this body had done very valuable work, and deserved the thanks of the players. Mr B. M'Callum, in reply, said the committee viewed with pleasure the fine organisation underlying tho Technical College Clnh, and whilst this lasted the affairs of the club should continue to prosper. He hoped next year to seo them at the top of the table. Tho committee had put in a large amount of work and time during tho year, ami there was still much to be done. Other toasts, were “The Otago Referees’ Association ” (proposed by Mr L. Hope), “Kindred Clubs” (proposed by Mr E. Batchelor), “The Technical College Old Boys’ Association Football Club” (proposed by Mr A. M'Fadyen), and “The Press. ’ Medals were presented to Mr J. Middlemass (first grade) and Mr D. R Hadfiekl (fourth grade). Items were contributed, by Messrs A. Houlahan, P. Wyllie, J. Montague, N. Hobbs, J. B. Berry. E. Batchelor, Jory, and R. Baughen.
