ANNUAL PUBLIC MEETING The annual public meeting of the Baptist Women’s Missionary Union was held in the Hanover Street School Hal! on Tuesday afternoon. The largo hall was well filled with delegates, members, and visitors. After an opening hymn, Mrs Hercus, of Hamilton, led in prayer., Jbe Scripture reading from Joshua yi., was read by Mrs Jenkin, of Upawa. The President, on behalf, of the delegates, welcomed the visitors, and spoke feelingly of their work and the cooperation of prayer. Representatives from sister organisations then gave greetings from their respective societies, after which all joined in singing ‘Blessed Bo the Tie That Binds. Other greetings from , friends and branches were also received, and an apology from Mrs C. North. A vocal solo was very ably rendered by Mrs V. Voller. A summary of the secretary and treasurer’s reports was given by Miss Gainsford and Mrs Collins respectively, and were heartily received. In her address from the chair the president struck a note of thankfulness and praise, and spoke of the love and guidance of God through all the years. She very fittingly gave as the title of her address 1 God With Us.’ Eight of the Hanover Street Sunday School scholars then gave a demonstration of a Bengali farewell to Mss Beckand a welcome to Miss lavingstone, and garlanded both the missionaries with flowers. Miss Gainsford interpreted their songs for the benefit of those present. As Miss Beckingsalo rose to speak sho -was greeted with loud _ applause. She told of the great help it is to those on the field to know that the women of the homeland were upholding them in prayer. Continuing, Miss Beckingsalo also spoke of the progress made in the work amongst the women and children since her last furlough five years previous. Miss Livingstone, in a few words, told how she had been led, to yield her life for foreign service. Wo know that the prayers of all will go with and continually surround hor. A vocal solo was then beautifully rendered by Mrs Scott, after which all on the platform wore presented with beautiful bouquets. The secretary, on behalf of the members, presented Miss Beckingsalo with a cheque and Miss Livingstone with a handsome travelling case and cushion. The President then announced Mrs p E. Harry, of Wellington, as her successor, and a greeting from her was read by Mrs Collins, the treasurer. The meeting then closed , with the doxology and tho benediction, which was pronounced by Mrs H. H. Driver.
