OTAGO POWER BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of tho Otago Electric Power Board was held yesterday afternoon, when tho following were present:—Messrs P. Briscoo (in the chair), H. M. Driver, D. Boyd, J. Guest, F. Carson, and W. B. Galloway. The Finance Committee reported that accounts amounting to £6,585 19s 6d had been passed for payment. It was reported that Mr Galloway had been unanimously reappointed chairman of the Finance Committee. A letter was received from the secretary of tho Otago Expansion League stating that it proposed holding a conference of electric supply boards, and inviting the board to send two delegates, accompanied by tho engineer, to attend. —The chairman, Mr Galloway, and the acting engineer (Mr Collins) wore appointed to act as tho board s delegates. . , . , A petition was received from ten residents of the Goodwood road, Palmerston, asking to be connected with the current as soon as possible. They had been wired up for six months, and nothing further bad been done.—Mr Galloway said he would like to see the work done without any delay. The petition had just come to hand that day, and they had not had time to look into the matter.—The matter was' left in tho hands of the acting enginefhe Clerk of the Waihemo County Council wrote advising the board of the following resolution which was carried at the last council meeting:—“That this council approves of tho protest made by Messrs Boyd, Guest, and Galloway against 'the conducting of tho business of the Otago Electric Power Board, and also that the board bo informed that the ratepayers in tho district are dissatisfied with the lack of initiative and supervision displayed in the management of the workmen employed.”—Tho Chairman moved that tho letter bo not received. —Mr Carson said it was very bad taste for the council in question to dictate to the board as to now its business should ho conducted.—The motion was carried. The Naseby Welfare League forwarded a letter asking when the scheme for light and power for the Naseby district would be gone on with.—Mr Galloway stated that he and the engineer had addressed a public meeting at Naseby on tho subject, but guarantees would have to bo secured before anything further could be done. Also the hoard would have to bo convinced that tli© scheme was a good one. He moved that the matter be held over until Mr Aldridge’s return. —Carried. Mr A. Tweed (Milton) wrote drawing attention to the manner in which the property of Mrs M. Tweed had been loft by tho board’s workmen at Lovell’s Flat. It was necessary for the workmen to fell some trees to clear the line alongside a post and wire fence. The wire had been broken and several posts destroyed.—Mr Boyd said that similar grievances had been brought before the board, and he thought the workmen had not been as careful as they might have been. Ho moved that the matter be left to himself and the acting engi neer-manager to deal with.—Mr Driver seconded the motion, which was carried.

The Acting Engineer-manager reported that he had written to Mr Geo. Aitchison (Kaitangata) thanking him for facilities granted for the conveyance of poles through his property to the bank of the canal.—Approved. It was decided to reply to the town clerk (Kaitangata) that the board had received notice of the postmaster’s willingness to inform the Stirling sub-sta-tion after 6 p.m. on any day of any defect that might occur in the J?9rough ; 6 lighting.
