"MISS NEW ZEALAND"

Another Day Gone

FOUR OTAGO FINALISTS The Polling at the Theatre last Eight leaves the Competitors in the following order: — MISS M‘MILLAN 1 MISS TAIT ' 3 MISS OSTEN .... 2 MISS WILKINSON ... ... 4

Heavy Voting Again Order of Favoritism Unchanged Poll Closes Saturday Afternoon Another packed house fleeted the four Otago girls with joud applause last night. It is obvious that the nervousness which afflicted them on the opening night is rapidly wearing off. They are more at their ease, and consequently make n much better showing. Little Miss Canterbury and her companion were cordially greeted also. The heavy voting last night did not alter the position of the four contestants, but it is whispered that one of those lower down on the

ladder advanced a rung or two. The issue is by no means settled. The order is still:— No. 1 (Miss Thelma M'Millan) 1 No. 4 (Miss Mario Oston) -• 2 No. 2 (Miss Alice Tail) 3 No. 3 (Miss Bettie Wilkinson) 4 Supporters of the leading girls in the contest must not take it altogether for granted that they will stay there. In Christchuhch one young lady led the voting right to the last night, but a final overwhelming vote for Miss Pycrott and Miss Mann brought them from lower positions and placed them at the head of the poll. It will be remembered that when the final result was announced at Christchurch there was a scene of wild enthusiasm. Much the same may bo expected at His Majesty’s on Saturday night. Whoever proves to be “ Miss Otago,” it is safe to predict that she will be remembered as such for many a day. It will not be long now before it will be known to whom the honor belongs. Prom Dunedin the Entertainers Company proceeds to Timaru, thence to Wellington, and on to Auckland. The two chosen Otago girls will go with thorn and take part in the Beauty Pageant that will continue to be a feature of the programme. The last opportunity for voting will be at the matinee performance on Saturday. There will be no voting on Saturday night. After the four contestants have paraded on that night the final result will be announced and the prizes and gifts handed to the winners. Honor and glory, superaddod to the more material awards, will be showered upon ‘‘Miss New Zealand.” Preparations are already in train for celebrating the crowning event' and the Queen of the Dominion will certainly have reason to remember with joy this wonderful occasion.
