IMPERIAL ECONOMIC COMMITTEE'S ADVICE [Rkr United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, October 15. A summary of ;ho report by the Imperial Economic Committee on dairy produce, cabled to the Government by the Secretary of State for the Dominion Affairs, is now _ available. The committee considers _ a reduction in the cost of production essential, and the Governments of the dominions are advised to consider tho advisability of uniformity of grading throughout the Empire. The carriage of dairy produce in refrigerated cars in all the dominions is recommended. Ocean freight charges ami tho possibility of reduced periods of ocean transit are discussed. The lather depends ou cost, and it is for tho Governments of the -Empire to say whether subsidies on an adequate scale to secure high speeds are worth while. The United Kingdom markets arc examined and the functions of the importers, wholesalers, blenders, retailors, and multiple shops are examined. Regulation of supplies is recommended. In this connection the report goes on'to say: “If tho boards follow tho example of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board and limit their activities to the regulation shipments and the gradual development of orderly marketing in tho United Kingdom by such methods as a quotation of prices to give a ‘ lead ’ to markets, and not by speculation or the fixing of prices, they will greatly contribute to the stabilisation of markets.”
