Canterbury can be relied on to in alee a hold bid next year lor the Kaniur y Shield, but the province will bo without the services of several leading Rugby plavers who were in the head and front of tilings this season (says the ‘ Sun’)- T , The veteran, IV. A. (“Jockey’) Ford, has played Ins last game. £ f ** XiCaliVj who locked the C.iin* terbury scrum, intends to retire, but probably Geoff. Alley will bo available next season for the purpose. Loabv faced a gruelling task tins year, and it was rather bard on both him and A. M'Cormack that they bad to play mi all tho matches on tour just before the Hawke’s Bay game. Men in the front-rank and the man who lock's the scrum need a spell at- intervals, for they carry an enormous burden. R. Wagborn, the fast Peninsula forward, wliose perfect fitness is due to the care he takes of himself, is giving up the game. It is very probable that Dr 1). M‘K. Dickson will also retire. Dickson played for Roys’ High School in 1917 and 1918, and subsequently for Otago University. Ho has_ represented the Now Zealand University colleges, and lost year be was a member of the All Black team which toured New South Wales. He was not available for the interisland game this season, and so ho did not figure in the list of possibilities by tho selectors of the season’s All Black team. These men have enriched the game. They are sportsmen all, and they retire with honors and in an atmosphere of grateful memories by the followers of Rugby.
