SUICIDE OF ACTRESS

VALENTINO HER IDEAL DISTRACTED BY HIS DEATH. LONDON, August 27. _ Peggy Scott, an actress, aged 27, was found dead in her bedroom in a West End flat, where, according to the ‘ Daily Mirror,’ the police discovered many autographed photographs of Rudolph, Valentino, and also a number of letters. _ A friend states that the young woman was greatly affected by Valentino’s death. She had met him while she was on a holiday at Biarritz. The ‘ Daily News ’ says Peggy Scott was a South African, and was well known in the night clubs. She would sit for hours watching Valentino’s films, said a friend to a representative of the ‘ Star.’ She had been a mannequin and a chorus girl. She wrote to a friend: “ "When I read of Valentino’s death something in my head snapped. There is nothing to live for.” She drank disinfectant, and when she was dyirig, said: “Death is a wonderful thing. lam now going to see how wonderful,it is.” BUTTERFLY MADE FOR SUNSHINE. “Please look after Rudolph’s pictures. He helped mo over lots of stiles, unknowingly,” was her farewell message. Shq bequeathed her collection of Valentino’s photographs to a young woman friend, Rosa Alborough, who gave her a night’s lodging before she committed suicide. Her friend gave evidence at the inquest to-day that Peggy came to her fiat, penniless, saying sho was unable to get work or a room. Sho stayed the night, and visited a moving picture theatre the next afternoon. Sho returned in the evening, crying, and collapsed, saying: “I have swallowed something.” Sho died a few 'minutes after the arrival of a doctor. The dead woman left a letter in her bag, addressed to witness, which read: “I wish 1 was as plucky as you; but I am only a little butterfly, made for sunshine. I cannot stand loneliness and shabbincss, with nobody to care for mo and no babies to love. RUDOLPH GAVE HER COURAGE. “Life is awful, awful. I am afraid of it. Simply existing is heartbreaking. Living in the past, when the present is hopeless has broken my heart. Rudolph helped me to carry on. Ho told me of his own sufferings. “With his death my last bit of courage has flown. I have been stretched for years like a piece of elastic. Perhaps it was only a matter of time, any way, before the elastic snapped.” The deceased actress apologised to her, friend for giving trouble, and hoped sho w'ould not allow her death to interfere with witness's holiday. Sho mentioned a man friend, who used to make her an allowance. She gave him her blessing, and hoped he would pay the funeral expenses. “I am sure he will help. It is for the last time,” sho said. The witness told the coroner that she. was paying for the funeral. The inquest was adjourned until October.
