MEDICAL CONGRESS

ALTERATION IK DATES FIIE HUNDRED DOCTORS EXPECTED Owing to difficulties in the way of accommodation, tlio dates for the holding of the second session of tho Australasian Medical Congress of the British Medical Association in Dunedin has been altered. It was originally intended to hold tho congress from February 2 to February 9, the new dates being from February 3 to February 10. The first session of tho Australasian Medical Congress was held in Melbourne about four years ago, but a foremnr % to this congress was tho Intercolonial Medical Congress, which was last held in Dunedin thirty years ago. Dr Ferdinand Campion Batchelor was the president. Professor Scott secretary, and Dr Barnett junior secretary.

Dr Barnett is president of the forthcoming Australasian Congress, Professor W. P. Govvland being the secretary. A_ large number of visitors from Australia is expected, many of whom will Erobably• tour New Zealand. Inquiries _ave been made in this direction, particularly in regard to the'Ashing that is obtainable. Prospective visitors have been making inquiries concerning the congress from India. Malay States, and other parts of the British Empire. Medical men from all over Now Zealand will attend, and it is expected that altogether there will bo about 500 doctors present with their wives. An Executive Committee of local doctors has been set up, and arrangements in connection with the congress are well in hanci At least one official representative of the British Medical Association in England will bo present, Dr Cooper Pattin having signified his intention of attending, and it is also hoped that Dr Hogarth, president of the British Medical Association in England, will be able to be present. Among other things, the subjects of goitre, cancer, and spastic paralysis will ho discussed at the congress,' the inaugural ceremony of wlrch, it is expected. will bo.held in the Early Settlers’ Hall.

Recognising that the success of the congress, so far as sight-seeing is concerned, will mean a good advertisement for the dominion, the local branch of the Government I’ourist Department has placed its. services at the disposal of the Executive Committee controlling the arrangements, and it has been decided to set up a special tourist bureau at the congress for the convenience ol visiting medical men.
