The clouds are clearing for many men who have been out of work for a considerable period, and many deserving cases among single men are now being dealt with. I The Town Hall authorities made arrangements to-day to place thirty men in employment. One married man and one siii'gle are being sent to corporation works at Butt’s road; five married and seventeen single men will commence on corporation works at Maori Hill on Thursday; and one married and live single men have been placed in private jobs. The ranks of the married men have been weeded out, and now the single men are getting their chance. There are still a number or j married men on the register who will I probably be placed in the course of a few days on corporation works which are anticipated to commence shortly. 1 “ The outlook is decidedly brighter,” said Mr R. Moffat, at the Tqwn Hall Unemployment Bureau, this morning, “ and it is pleasing to be able to report that a number of single men who have been out of work for periods ranging from four weeks to four j months have now boon placed.” Ho 1 stated that if the relief funds wore sufficient to tide over the period of de- ' pression the City Council would ho able to continue its policy of opening up I more corporation works. After purging the roll of the names ;of men who have not reregistered within the last fortnight, the Labor Department had 255 names_ on its unemployment register last night. There , were 'eight further applications for work this morning, hut. with thirty names of men placed to be deducted the total now unemployed stands at 233. There are no jobs on Government works in view.
