REPORTED FIMDIHO OF BODY MR POWER CRITICISED DESECRATION OF WAR GRAVES. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, August-15. The ‘Daily Mail,’ in an editorial on Lord Kitchener’s body, says; “It is a ghoulish act to exploit the fame of one of the greatest British soldiers. The Admiralty’s narrative of August 9 convinced all but the stupidly credulous that the stories of foul play were utterly false and absurd. This bodysnatching' from Norway verges on a public scandal. Whether the British laws are at present unable to punish the desec raters of the graves of the noble dead remains to bo seen. Otherwise they should ho strengthend so as to provide for an exemplary punishment for the uuanthoritative meddling with war graves. Detectives lengthily interrogated Mr Power, and took possession of the documents referring to the body. Mr Power announces that hc_ is applying to the High Court for an injunction to ’©strain fie authorities from opening the coffin.—Sydney ‘ Sun ’ Cable. [A White Paper, issued on August 9 stated: M The bodies of the officers and men washed up on the Scandinavian coast were not from the Hampshire, but were the victims of the Battle of Jutland. None of the_ Hampshire’s dead were ever identified as buried there, and there are good reasons for doubting whether the sea would have carried them thither.’’ The paper pointed out that Lord Jellicoe secretly instructed a detail cruiser to carry Lord Kitchener to Russia. The dates were approximate, and the departure was actually pub forward a day. Thera was uo reason for attributing a had spy record to the Hampshire. The foundation of that story was that there was a single spy scare during the refitting of the Hampshire at Belfast, which proved to he a mare’s nest.
