OCTAGON Collecp Aloorc’s latest picture, ‘lrene,’ will be shown again tkisevoning at the Octagon 'lneatrc. The fashion episode in this him is made entirely in color, and tho lour seasons of the year arc depicted in like manner. ‘ .Irene ’ is the screen version of the famous musical comedy of the same name, and tells ol Irene O’Dare, who, ’when out of work, finds an unexpected friend in Donald Marshall. He arranges with the ambitious proprietor of a newly-established modiste’s shop to employ her as a mannequin in return for his patronage. Being fconsidered quite impoa stele as a mannequin, Irene is left to mind the shop when the proprietor takes his models to the Alar.shali home to participate in a charity fashion show. Donald goes to the shop, and has her array herself in a newly-imported French creation, and takes her to the affair. She creates a sensation, but her Irish mother arrives and spoils the whole show. Donald, after convincing Mrs O’Dare of his deep affection for her daughter, starts with her to find Irene. They locate her on the fire escape of the O’Dare homo lamenting her separation .from her beloved. Tho story ends to the .satisfaction of all. The fashion episode in ‘ Irene’ was entirely filmed m natural color. Charlie Murray and Kale Price, as Irene’s parents, provide plenty of good comedy. A pleasing little prologue, introducing neat ballets and tho song, ‘ SweetLittle Alice Blue Gown,’ is staged, and the Octagon Orchestra plays many enjoyable selections. EXPIRE Headed by Ramon Novarm and Harriet Hammond,, the cast of ‘The Midshipman’ contains a wealth of talent. Much of the action in the picture is set at sea, and in an atmosphere entirely naval in its location and surroundings. The story deals with Dick Randall, a midshipman, who formed a sincere friendship with Ted Lawrence, a young newcomer to the academy. Two years later, when Ted’s beautiful sister arrived at the academy to witness the sports, it was not long before Dick had lote his heart to her. Forced to arrest the brother of the gild he loved, he 1 ound he had to choose between duty and happiness. His choice was in accordance with (he traditions ho had promised to uphold. Then comes an exciting climax. His .sweetheart, had been alxlucicd on a yacht, heading for the open sea. Outside the three-mile limit tho gj-rl was to ho married by force: but pm the horizon appeared four boats living to tin l rescue. In addition, is a modern story of (lie underworld, entitled ‘Shadows of Baris,' in which Pnla Negri is seen as the ‘‘ Blackbird,” queen of the underworld and the toast of society, who is the wife of a high official one minute and an Apache the next. fiiltEil'S A drama of the gold country and a girl who dared to tread tin; disputed road, i.s told in ‘The Splendid Road' at the Queen’s Theatre. Lionel Barrymore and Anna Q. Nilsson are the featured players and they are supported by a strong east. The story tells of a woman who sets out from Boston for California on Ixoard ship. On her arrival at the goldfields, she meets a young lawyer, and falls in love with him. While protecting her from Clohollis, a rascal gambler, the lawyer is awidentally shot, and while he is hovering between life and death, the girl thinks that ho is in love with another girl, and prepares to leave him. He regains his strength, however, and i.s just in time to rescue her from tho famous Saorcmento flood of ’49.

PLAZA m CBABD ‘Daring .Days’ is the attraction at the Plana and Grand Theatres. The story tells of a girl who is elected to the office of Mayor of Lden, an imaginary town in the desert of Arizona. She begins to reorganise the t"wn, and her adventures while doing this work form a thrilling story. Jusie Sedgwick, tlie sensational girl rider of the West, has the leading part, and is ably-sup-ported by an excellent east. On the same hill is ‘ Go Straight,’ the melodrama of a girl member of a hand of crooks, and her attempt to go straight, despite tremendous obstacles. , ,

ROSLYN THEATRE At the Roslyn Theatre to-nighi ‘The Leavenworth Case’ will be screened. This is a thrilling mystery story, and played by an all-star cast, which includes Sena Owen, Martha Mansfield, and Wilfred LyteL KING EDWARD A story of love, adventure, and .humor is ‘ The Midshipman,’ the principal attraction at the King Edward Theatre, llamon Novarro and Harriet Hammond are the featured players. Most of the action takes place at sea in an entirely naval atmosphere.
