CORRESPONDENCE

“BIG DAY” EFFORT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir,—On behalf of tho Commercial Travellers and AAkirchonscmcn’s Association of Otago, we would like to avail ourselves of your good offices in order to express our thanks to all those who helped so splendidly in tho “Pig Day" effort io raise funds for tho relief of poverty and distress in onr midst. Any work done by our members would be of little avail without tho assistance of friends of the movement, of the business houses generally, and of tho public who rally round us so well. Those members of tho executive to whom is assigned tho duty of securing suitable goods for .the bugs receive tho greatest possible help from firms who have anything to sell or give, all other sections of the community have responded readily to requests for financial assistance, and it is obvious that “ Ihg Day ” has now become one of the recognised opportunities for public generosity. Encouraged by this support, tho efforts of our members become a pleasure and delight, feelings which are accentuated by the knowledge that such large sums can be obtained. ‘ The amount received by this year’s campaign is £1,103 19s fid, making a total for the five years in which it has been in operation of £C,979 15s Cd Those results are most gratifying to all onr members, and we, in thei! name, thank moSfc heartily everybody who has contributed to this success, which, wo feel sure, will ho cordially welcomed by those entrusted with tho administration of the funds, which we know bring comfort and relief to ninny who would otherwise have to go without —AVo are, etc., Jar. Pkown (president), Geo. Davidson (secretary). August 16.
