JOHN M'GLASHAN COLLEGE
A SUCCESSFUL CONCERT The Maori Hill Coronation Hall was filled to capacity on Saturday night, when a varied and enjoyable, concert programme was presented by the pupils of the John M'Glashau College, assisted by well-known local performers. The school choir sang two folk songs (‘Spanish Ladies ’ and ‘The La>s ol Richmond Hill ’), and later in the evening gave Handel’s 1 'Where’er You Walk,’ Rcinecke’s ‘ 0 Beautiful Violet,’ the judge’s song from ‘Trial By Jury,’ and a medley of old favorites. The singing of the boys was good, and was highly appreciated by tho audience. Two violin solos (‘Raudino’ and ‘ Simple Avcu ’) were played by J. R. Elder, accompanied by C. G. Gray, both items being enthusiastically encored. Miss Florence Sumner was heard in ‘ The Spinning TV heel ’ and ‘ Sing, Sing, Blackbird,’ tho audience insisting on two further contributions. A quartet party, consisting of Messrs T. Bacpop, L. James, J. i’alerson, and J. D. M’Kechnio, sang ‘ A Thuringian Folk Song ’ and ‘ln Absena,’ and an encore number had to bo given; while Air llachop s item (Tosti’s ‘Parted’) and Mr M'Kcchnie’s rendering of Coningsliy Giant’s ‘Sea. fever 1 were also thoroughly appreciated. Dr Galway was tlie accompanist. An enjoyable item was tho reading of Ferguson’s one-act play, ‘ Campbell of Ivamnor, in wmeu uio parts wore taken by Mrs C. Mackic Begg, Miss M'Callum, and Messrs C. M. Gilray, T. S. Holme, G. C. Robinson, and T. G. Sutherland.
