Macartney made effective use of an averspin, the ball keeping very low. Woolley played comparatively freely against Mailey, sending him thrice to the leg boundary. He then fell a victim to a ball which patently nonplussed him, Sutcliffe was never really comfortable facing Mailey, who boat him on several occasions. Hendren was unlucky. He was batting confidently when the played over a fast delivery, the ball rolling on to his wicket. The board then read 108 for three wickets.
