Dr T, MTCibbin, who a few years ago was medical officer of health fox Otago and Southland, and is now stationed at Wellington as director of public hygiene, has been visiting Dunodin, and left for Wellington by the 11.3 U train to-day. Messrs W. E. Reynolds, W. Bryant, and John Fisher are on their way to Wellington on Dairy Control Board business, having left by the second express to-day. ' Tho Rev. Dr C. H. Laws travelled by train to-day from Invercargill to Ashburton. . Mr R. Horn went back to Christchurch to-day after a visit to Dunedin. Sir S, May, representing Wimble and Co., went by the second express to-day from Dunedin to Christchurch. Mr A. E. Ushenvood was a passenger for Christchurch by the 11.30 train today. Passengers by the southern express who got off at Dunedin this morning included Mr F, AV. MacLcan and Mr D. Cuthbcrtson. Mr A. H. Mackrell is to retire from the management of the Invercargill factory of the AVaitaki Dairy Company at tho end of October—so reports the ‘Southland Times’—but will continue to act as director in Southland. At a meeting of the executive of the Otago A. and F. Society the following resolution was passed:—“ fhat this meeting desires to express its appreciation oi the many services rendered to tho community by the late Mr John Mill, and also desires _to extend its sincere sympathy with his \yiie and family in their sad bereavement.”
A social gathering was hold in the Alhambra Rugby Football Club’s pavilion on Wednesday, the occasion being to bid farewell to Air A. Glengarry, the club’s popular captain and_ Otago representative, who is removing to Wanganui. Mr W. Harridge, president of the club, occupied the chair, and representatives from other clubs were present. The toast list included “Sister Clubs,” proposed by Mr J. Mitchell 'and responded to by Messrs Brough (Pirates), Wootten (Southern), Callender and Glengarry (Kaikorai), and “Tho Alhambra Chib,” proposed by Mr J. Walker and responded to by Messrs M. Higgins and P. APDougall. The chairman proposed the toast of “Our Guest,” and Mr Glengarry responded. During the evening the chairman, on behalf of the members, presented Air Glengarry with a brief bag and a set of pipes. Among those at the Excelsior Hotel are Mr J. W. Dance (Auckland), Mr J. M'Naney (Wellington), Air R. AI. APDonald (Mataura), Brother Virgilius, Messrs J. F. Dundas, Thos. Baird, C. D. Francis, F. C. Jarvis, J. D. APLeod (Invercargill). Staying at the Grand Hotel are Mr O. J. Blanksley (Sydney), Air C. H. Andrews (Wellington), Air G. S. Royds (Christchurch), Afr Edgar T. Shand (Kokonga). Guests at the Hotel Carlton include Air H. G. Bruce (Sydney), Air V. Salek (Auckland), Alessrs G. L. Reese, C. K. Pearson, and J. AL'Calhun (Wellington), Mr A. Latta ’(Owaka). Recent arrivals at the City Hotel include AH’ R- Swanstou and Aliss L. K. Anderson (Wellington), Mr T. Linklater (Christchurch), Mr A. Fraser (Oamaru), Mr J. Hay (Tapanui), Mr and Mrs A. H. Fitzgerald and Aliss AI. Fitzgerald, Alessrs J. Fraser and R. Crooksljanks ('lnvercargill), and Air E. Spain (Clyde). Commissioner James Hay, who has held important commissions in the Salvation Army world in the United Kingdom and South Africa, has been appointed to ■ supersede Commissioner Hoggard as territorial leader of the Salvation Army in tho dominion.
