FIGHT WITH HUGE EAGLE
THREE IN A TRAP CASHED BY BEAK AND CLAWS. GOULBURN (N.S.W.), Aug. 0 Tho story of a sensational struggle between a man and a giant eagle comes from Chatsbury, near Goulburn. Mr H. Rankin, an employee on Mr A. A. Carr’s station at Chatsbury, had set a wire trap to catch crows and eagles, and when ho approached the trap this morning he was astounded to see three huge eagl \s vainly endeavoring to release themselves. Seizing the first weapon that came to his hand, he struck at the largest bird, but it was too quick for him. Making a ferocious jab with its beak and striking with its claws, tho eagle inflicted a nasty gash in his forearm. However, the man fought gamely until he had despatched the three birds. Three eagles in one trap is an extraordinary capture. One of them measured over 7ft across the wing tips, and was 3ft 2in in length. The others measured 6ft 9in from tip to tip, and 6ft 3in respectively. Tho trap contained a large sheep specially killed for tho purpose of attracting these kings of the air. Last lambing season Mr Carr found that many of his lambs had mysteriously disappeared, and he attributed this'to the depredations of eagles.
