LONDON, August 12.

The death is announced of Sir William Ridgeway.—A. and N.Z. Cable. [Sir William Ridgeway was born in 1853, the son of an Anglican clergyman. He was educated at Partarlingtou* School and at Trinity College, Dublin, where he had a distinguished career as a classical scholar. Prior to his appointment in 1892 as professor of archaeology at Cambridge, he held a number of university lectureships, and throughout his long life ho was a keen student of both archaeology and anthropology, contributing largely to the scientific literature on both subjects. He was knighted in 1919.]
