DRIVERLESS TRAIN ACCIDENT

LONDON, August 12. At the inquiry into the driverloss tram accident tho evidence showed that the control handle of the electric train bad been tied with a handkerchief, apparently belonging to tho driver, who was found dead on the line. The effect was to depress the handle and thus allow tho control to he left with the full power on though the motorman was absent. Doctors gave evidence that the driver’s death was due to his head striking a bridge while he was leaning out.—A. and N.Z. Cable
[An astonishing accident occurred at Newcastle on August 9. An electric passenger train, which was dashing without a driver through the darkness, crashed into a goods train when travelling at thirty miles an hour. Five persons were injured. Later the driver ,was found dead on the line two miles away. If the train had not met the goods train it would have dashed into tho central station and caused a serious disaster.]
