OCTAGON ‘Behind tho Front,’ which is showing at the Octagon Theatre, features the famous comedy team, Wallace Beery and Raymond Hatton. Beery and Hatton appear as a couple of raw recruits, who get into all the trouble possible in the army. Some of the funniest incidents in the picture take place in a tank which the pair have raided. Mary Brian, as a Red Cross worker, for whoso love the heroes perform all their exp fits and break all bounds, is cast in a charming role that will recall to every “ digger ” some pleasant recollections. Chester Conklin, as the Scotch “ kiltie ” who is imported into a Y.M.C.A. hut to tell tho boys how he won his medals, gives a riotous piece of pantomime. ‘ GRAUSTARK. ’ COMING. Norma Talmadgo and Eugene O’Brien arc once more cast together as the perfect lovers in ‘ Graustark,’ which is to commence a season at the Qqtagon Theatre next Friday. Miss Talmadge will bo seen as the Princess Yetive, into whose life comes an adventurous American, whose 000 l daring throws all Graustark into a ferment, and many a. brilliant spectacle, thrilling chase, and duel goes its absorbing way across tho screen before Graustark makes its final happy how amid scenes of joy and Splendor. *As Yetive, Norma Talmadge | will live long in .the minds of those who are privileged to see this picture, for her acting is faultless in every detail. Eugene O’Brien leaves nothing to be desired. EMPIRE Colleen Moore eclipses all her, previous efforts in ‘ Wc. Moderns,’ screening again tin's evening at the Empire Thej atre. She shows herself quite at home | in the role of Mary Sundale, a spoilt i daughter of luxury. Her absolute disregard for convention leads her into I many scrapes, in which her hairbrained brother is a willing accomplice. Mias Moore proves herself to ho not : only a comedienne, hut a star who can tug at tho heart strings of her audienoc. Jack Mnlhall plays tho lending masculine role, and in tho supporting cast arc Claude Gillingwater, Clarissa iSolwyn, Tom M‘Guiro, Clove Moore, Carl Miller, and Marcella Cordon. QUEEN’S A stirring talc of romance and adventure is told in ‘Drums of Jepardy,’ ■at the Queen’s Theatre. A disguised Russian prince is being pursued by a . band of crooks in order to take some I valuable jewels from his possession. He 1 is befriended by an American girl, and : several days later the girl’s father is found murdered, and the evidence points to the Russian. After numerous exciting adventures, the real murderers are tracked and captured. Elaine Hammerstein and Jack Mnlhall are the featured players, and they arc supi parted by a strong cast. | EVERYBODY’S I ‘ Stage Struck ’ is the attraction _at I Everybody’s Theatre. The leading part, that of Jennie, a waitress in a small restaurant, is played by Gloria Swanson. The tale tells how Jennie plays a part in a small touring show in order to attract Ornic Wilson, whoso i time is entirely taken up with actresses. I Instead of being attracted, Onne is ! repulsed, so Jennie decides to end her life in tho river. Ormo secs Ins mistake, however, and rescues the girl, and they open a restaurant of their own. In addition is ‘Her Fatal Millions,’ which tells of a girl who, was a millionaire for an hour. PLAZA AND GRAND In ‘ The Circus Cyclone,’ at the Plaza and Grand Theatres, Art Acord takes the part of Jack Manning, who incurs the enmity of the ringmaster of a, Western cirrus. A fight ensues, and Jack is the victor. He later falls in love with the lady rider of the show, i The ringmaster accuses the girl’s father i of theft” and ho is in danger of being lynched. When'Jack hears of what has lia-ppenod he rushes to the rescue, and the story is brought to a satisfactory conclusion. Also showing is ‘ Married Flirts,’ in which Paulino Frederick has tho stellar role. KING EDWARD ‘ Wc Moderns,’ now at the King Edward Theatre, tells a thrilling story of an aeroplane smash, which brought a pampered daughter of wealth to her senses. Colleen Moore is the featured player.
