The monthly meeting of the Irish Society was held in the Returned Soldiers’ Association Club Hoorn, Mr J. M'Guire presiding over a fairly largo attendance. The patron of the society. Right Rev. Dr Whyte, attended, and spoke in eulogistic terms of the manner in which the society was being conducted and of the high standard that was being maintained in Irish music, song, and literature. He referred especially to the Irish airs rendered on the naino hy Sir Hanley, and to Irish readings treating of national art and independence. Rev. Brother Moore, of the Christian Brothers, at present on a visit to Australia, spoke highly of the edifying programme presented. He referred to the beauty of Irish music in general, and congratulated the society on the good work it was doing. The following items were given, after which dancing was indulged in• Pianoforte ■ selection, ‘lrish Airs/ Mr Hanley; song, ‘For the Green,’ Miss Valiis; readings, ‘lrish Art and Independence,’ Miss Mollio Gallagher; song, ‘ Believe Mo If All,’ Mr M. Oonghlan; recitation, ‘ The Road to Dennehy’s,’ Miss A. Henley.; song, ‘ Dear Little Shamrock,’ Mr Hamilton Eagar; guitar selection, ‘Oft in the Stilly Night,’ Mr B. Sheehy.
