KO APPEAL FOR MERCY TWENTY SHILLINGS IN POUND. LONDON, July 20. “ The American branches overwhelmed us with kindness,” said Sir Henry Braddon, the chief guest at a luncheon given by the English-speaking Union to-day.
“ The only untoward incident was when an American clerk scanned my entry in the hotel and asked: ‘ Are you-man and wife? ’ 1 answered that 1 had been under that impression for thirty-five years, and asked him what'was wrong. The clerk, pointing to the entry, replied: ‘You’ve writtten Sir Henry Lucy Braddon.’ Sir Henry said he regretted that an English newspaper had represented America as a Shylock oyer the war debts.
