Tie case in which Alice Merry, a widow, was charged with failing to deliver particulars of the dutiable estate of her deceased sou to the Commissioner of Taxes was concluded at Wellington yesterday. Mr J. M. Tudhope said that the woman lost her husband and son within a few weeks of each other. She lived alono in an empty house, and was apparently obsessed with the idea that there was a conspiracy to defraud her. A solicitor from another centre, who was a member of Parliament and a friend of the defendant, had now persuaded her and she had agreed to file the accounts. Counsel suggested that the fondant should bo ordered to pay the costs only, and to this course the Magistrate (Mr E. Page) agreed.
