A CHARGE OF ABDUCTION [Per United Press Association.] GISBORNE, July 10. Alfred Harry Jones, a farm hand, of Ormond, was charged this morning with abduction and indecent assault on a thirteen and admit years-old girl. The evidence showed that Jones took the girl from Gisborne to Rotorua, where lie was arrested. At the suggestion of the magistrate, the indecent assault charge w r as_ withdrawn, there being no evidence in support of it. Accused’s statement was that he took the child away because she was having a hard life at home. He intended taking her to his father’s at Ha-rga-ville. Medical evidence showed that there had been no interference. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge of abduction, and was committed to Auckland for sentence.
