OTAGO YACHT CLUB

A meeting of the Otago Tacht and Motor Boat Club was held last evening. Mr 0. W. Sundstrum (commodore) presided. Several boat owners wrote stating that they would contribute annually to the fund for the expenses of the caretaker at the Boat Harbor. The Commodore reported that the alterations to the pavilion at the Boat Harbor to bring it into lino as a dwelling were almost completed. It was hoped to install the caretaker next week. The club could not enforce the payment of a fee, hut all the boat owners were agreed that it was a step in the right direction to install a caretaker, and there was not the least doubt that every boat owner would contribute annually towards the expense. It would be very satisfactory for all to know that a man was there to safeguard the club’s property and the boats. It was decided that an annual levy of 10s bo charged for a doublemoored boat (fore and aft) and £1 per annum for a boat on single moorings in the Boat Harbor. The Commodore said that the City Council had asked for a guarantee of £4 5s per year from the club if electric light were installed in the caretaker’s residence at the Boat Harbor. If the light were installed it would bo very convenient to boat owners if a big light were placed near the winch. There was no hope of securing power for the winch at the present time. The labor necessary for the installing of the light would be supplied free by one or two members, so that the actual cost to the club would be the annual guarantee of £4 ss. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of tho__ conimodoro to make arrangements for installing the light in the caretaker’s residence. The Commodore said that the chib had borne considerable expense lately, and it was time something was done to recoup the funds. The club had been promised a dinghy, worth at least £2O, and it was proposed to dispose of the' boat in a profitable way. It was decided to leave the' matter in the hands of the commodore. Mr J. Brown was appointed to the position of caretaker at the Boat Harbor.
