OTAGO EDUCATION BOARD

HOUTHLY MEETING The: monthly meeting of tho Otago Education Board was commenced today, those present being Messrs J. Wallace (chairman)., G. W. Wood, G. Livingstone, J. Smith, J. Mitchell, R. H. Todd, and the Hon. D. T. Fleming. WORKS AND REPAIRS. The Forbury Committee applied for a subsidy for asphalting, the total cost being £ll4 10s 6d.—The Architect said it was tho ground which was filled in when the new building was erected which required asphalting.—lt was decided to grant a subsidy on the usual conditions.

In regard to tho Mornington Committee’s application for repairs to the shelter shed and for now furniture in the infant room, the architect recommended that in tho meantime repairs be carried out to holes in tho asphalt floor of the shelter shod, and that the other repairs be held over. Tho cost of supplying new furniture would be £lßo.—The architect’s report was adopted.

An application from the head master of the Normal School for four lire screens for the infant department was declined.

On the recommendation of tho architect it was decided to provide two stomas, at a cost of about £l7, for heating at Forbury School. The Oamanp North Committee applied for repairs to tho roof of the school and window sashes.—Granted. OAMARU SCHOOLS. The Education Department intimated that a grant or £502 18s had boon approved in tho case of each of the Onmnru North and the Oamaru South Schools for remodelling and additions to tho infant departments. Mr Mitchell said the grants had been cut down by over £IOO. He moved that the department should be ndvissd that the whole of _ the work recommended by the architect -was desirable, and be urged to carry it out. The speaker said the department had spent £IO,OOO on a junior high school, and had neglected the provision of_ additional infant accommodation in the other schools. The motion _ was carried. It was decided to_ forward to. the department a resolution passed by tho Oamaru North Committee protesting against the delay in getting the work done.
