A SPY’S CONFESSION DRAMATIC SCENE IN COURT. Prw Association—By Telegraph—Copyright LONDON, June 14. The ‘ Daily Express's ’ Pans correspondent says that a Belgian spy who betrayed a number of Frenchmen and Belgians to tho Germans was recognised dramatically in a Paris court. “ That is tho wretch,” cried out Georges, a French Customs officer, when Laperre, a Belgian accountant, came into the dock on a charge of swindling. “Ho betrayed six of us. Let mo get at him. I’ll strangle him.” The police prevented Georges from reaching Laperre, who burst into tears, and said: “I confesSj hut tho Germans promised me my life if 1 agreed to spy. 1 had been doing espionage work for Britain, but I was betrayed by a woman spv and sentenced to death.” The Belgian authorities announce that Laperre was sentenced to death in default m 1921 for denouncing Frenchmen and Belgians, ten of whom wore shot.—A. and N.Z.
