BRAILLE’S HELP.

TO THE EDITOR.

Sir,—l was very impressed wiih the article ‘ Braille’s Help ’ written by Mrs Crusoe in to-night’s ‘ Star.’ I would be pleased if you would allow rno space in your valuable paper to make a few comments on tbo article. The most important point is that the writer is a person up in years. Being honorary teacher appointed by the Jubilee Institute for the Blind, Auckland, I find great difficulty in persuading elderly people and even young people to learn the Braille typo, their excuse being that there is too ranch to remember; but by following the rules the system is made very simple. Grade 2is the one in general use. It may not be generally known that there is an honorary teacher appointed by the institute in each centre ot the dominion, each of these being ex-pupils I would be glad to hear of anyone desirous of learning Braille rending or writing. , Another point in the writer s letter was the great comfort she found in being able to read for herself, instead of depending cm others. That thought has always been expressed to mo b> my prust pupils. On behalf of tho bund readers, I would like to _ express our thanks to the City Council foi its annual donation to provide a fine selection ol Braille books in our Dunedin Public Library, also to those who so kindly distribute tbo books, and I only wish that more readers would come forward. I would bo pleased to meet or hear of any blind or partially blind persons.—l am, etc., (Mrs) E. A. King, 24 Clarendon street, Dunedin. June 12.
