SAVOY SUFFER DANCE

SATURDAY'S SUCCESS The supper dance at the Savoy on i Saturday night was idea! in every reI sped. This, at any rate, was the | opinion expressed by the patrons who I danced the hours awav in joyous fashion at the Tudor Haft. The weather was good dancing weather; the environment was unquestionably ideal; and there could be no doubt as to the music. The new Savoy Band was just splendid. The leader is an artist who gets the very best out of his men, and the very bast in this case really means the very best. He himself is a trombone player whose like has not been heard in dance halls in New Zealand. His playing on Saturday was a feature; q feature which impressed itself upon ilie ears of the dancers and hauntingly remained there. But the other members of the Land—pianist, saxophone player, violinist, drummer —are artists also, and, combined, the whole five certainly provided idea! dance music, played as modern dance music should be played—that is, with due regard to the musical aspect as well as to the dance aspect. The service and general organisation on Saturday was well up to the Savoy standard, and it wars with genera,l regret that the dancers heard the strains of the National Anthem and realised that midnight had arrived. Thev will have another opportunity of enjoying themselves similarly next Saturday night. In the meantime the popnl;,

Merrymakers Dance ujll he held to Thursday evening.
