Randolph Rose, starting from scratch in a special mile race, in which 80yds start w’as the limit handicap, at the Civil Service sports at Stamford Bridge, finished last. The track was heavy, and there was no medium start man to take him along. He covered a quarter of a mile in 60 4-6 sec, and ns alter that he saw' no Chance of catching the leaders he eased up. Six runners competed, and Driver, of the Woolwich Polytechnic, won with a 75yds start in 4min 17 4-ssec. Rose’s time was 4min 32 8-ssec. The Cambridge Amateur Athletic Association team beat Cambridge University by 52 points to 38. The 100yds race was won by A. E. Porritt (Association), with Rinkel (Cambridge) second, and Harrison (Cambridge) third. Won by half a yard in 30 l-sscc. Porritt finished with a lino burst of speed. Tho long jump was won by Honner, who covered 23ft Sin.—Reuter. BOXING. NEXT THURSDAY’S ATTRACTION. The Otago Boxing Association will stage a double professional contest at His Majesty’s Theatre on Thursday night. The preliminary bout of ten rounds will be between the local bantam champion, T. Griffiths, and E. Ross, fly-weight champion of Western Australia. The star attraction—between Les Murray mid D. Chambers—is scheduled for fifteen rounds. Boxing patrons can look forward to excellent bouts. Everyone knows the prowess of Les Murray, who is boxing as veil to-day as at any time of his career. Chambers has come to us ns a thunderbolt in the arena, and ho recently defeated Purdy in Auckland on points. Therefore it will be interesting to see Murray and Chambers in action, an honor winch local enthusiasts will appreciate in view of Murray’s prestige and contemplated trip abroad. The box plan for reserves will bo opened at The Bristol to-morrow. JAMITO BEATS CHAMBERS. Jamito defeated Chambers at Greymouth in tho presence of a good attendance after an excellent tight, in which the loser had decidedly the better j of the first five rounds, and showed I himself to he much the speedier fighter. From tho_sixth round, however, the veteran came to light at infighting, punishing his opponent's body and taking the aggressive. Chambers rallied in the tenth round, but Jamito finished the stronger.
