Tho staffs of the local Supreme and Magistrate’s Courts assembled this morning to bid farewell to Mr J■ Kane, who lias been promoted to tno position of clerk of the court at Stratford. On behalf of the combined staffs, with both of which Mr Kane has worked, Mr E. W. Cave (registrar) presented him with a solid leather travelling case and a set of razors. Reference was made to Mr Kane s obliging and attentive manner to the public, a trait which Sir Cave said was of immense value to any public servant. Regret was. expressed at Sir Kane’s departure, but the best wishes were offered for his future success and advancement. Sir M'lndoo '(clerk of., the Slagistrate’s Court) and others paid similar compliments to Sir Kane, who suitably replied. The mayor (Sir H. L. Tapley, SLR.) left for ’Wellington this morning to attend tho forthcoming session oi: Parliament. During tho session he will endeavor tn return to Dunedin as: often as possible to attend the fortnightly meetings of the City Council.
