The Wahine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.55 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails conriected with the 8.50 a.m. express, WHITE STAR LINE. The annual report of the White Star Line states that the freight position in all the company’s services was disappointing, and that there is no indication of an early improvement. The American passenger traffic was somewhat bettor, but the Canadian traffic was disappointing. There is, however, seme prospect or improvement in view of the more liberal attitude towards immigration recently adopted by the Canadian Government. The net profit for the year 1925, at £319,206, is substantially lower than that of 1924, which was £368,837, and is indeed the lowest earned in any one of the last ten years with the single exception of 1923, for which the figure _ was only £311,660. The dividend, which was 7i ¢. in 1924, and 6 per cent, in , has been reduced to 6 per cent, again, and there is no_ appropriation to the reserve fund, which a year ago received £126,000, though, on the other hand, the carry-forward, which last year was reduced by some £6,000, is now raised by nearly £70,000 to £187,234. The total fleet of the White Star Line, including vessels jointly owned with associated companies, consists of thirty-six vessels, of a- total gross tonnage of 626,979, while the company has building at Belfast the Laurentic, a new triplescrew steamer of about 19,000 tons.
