The famous £2,000 Diamond Championship Bolt which was presented to John L. Sullivan by boxing enthusiasts in the United States in ISB7 has been melted down at the mint, Philadelphia, to make gold coin. The dealer received a cheque for £l6O, representing the gold contained in the belt. Some 379 of the small diamonds w-crc missing, i The belt was one of the most famous j prizefight emblems in the world.
