Anderson’s b g, by Brent Looanda —General Mao mare.’* That is a name which might have appeared on trotting cards in future, hut for the fact that the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association yesterday gave it an emphatic “ No.” Mr R- A. Armstrong demurred when the name was submitted tor registration. “ Nugafonos,” he said, meditatively. “It is rot a very nice name. Can’t- wo have bettor names for. our trotters? ” “ What does it mean? ” inquired another member.

“ It has just occurred to me,” said Mr J. B. Norris, secretary, “that it is ‘son of a gnu’ spelt bachwrtys.”

“Oh!” said mom hers, and it was promptly decided that “ son of a gun ” backwards should not race on New Zealand trotting tracks.

DISQUALIFIED HORSE SHANGHAI [Special to the ‘Stab.’] CHRfSTCf lUIICH, Judo 9. At a meeting of the Board of the New Zealand Trotting Association, the Otago and Southland Owners and Breeders’ Association wrote regarding the disqualification of the horse Shanghai, purchased by J. Carter, of Dunedin, some three years ago. The letter stated that the horse war. purchased in good faith by Carter at public saleyards, and at tlio time he did not know that either the then owner or the horse was disqualified. Since then, however, the disqualification of the previous owner had been removed, but not that of the horse, and they were of, opinion that an injustice had been done Carter in not removing the disqualification of the horse. A member said ho did not consider that any injustice had been done Carter. On the motion of Mr Armstrong it was decided to reply to the association, pointing out its misstatements, and informing it that the board would consider an application from Carter for registration. HOCKEY. INDIAN AUMY TEAM. In perfect weather and in the presence of a record attendance the Indian Army team at Westport yesterday defeated Duller by 9 goals to 0. The visitors played a brilliant game, especially in the first spell, when they rattled up 7 goals. Parkes, the Duller custodian, saved brilliantly numerous hot shots at goal. In the second spell Duller held tho visitors well, repeatedly putting them on the defensive; but the home team failed to combine in the finishing of their movements. The visitors added two more goals to their list just on time. -

GOLF. NEW ZEALAND CHAMPIONSHIP. Mr G. 0. Sutton, secretary of tho Now Zealand Golf Association, has received advice from Mr W. A. chairman of the Now South Wales Golf Council, who was recently in New Zealand, that it is quite probable that a tea ITT of amateurs will come over for the New Zealand championship meeting in October. Mr Windeyer mentions that Balcombo and Armstrong, two “ plus three ” men. who won tho foursome championship last year, will comq, and that they think they can get Bussell, of Melbourne, to come also. It is possible that some men from Adelaide will also come over.
