NEW MARLBOROUGH HOUSE

All work upon the rearrangement of Marlborough House to fit it for the occupation of the Prince of Wales has, perforce ; been suspended during the serious illness of Princess Victoria, It is still hoped to have it ready for the occupation of the Prince before the end of the year (reports the London ‘Evening News’). So far as the state apartments are concerned, they are being left in much the same condition as they have been for many years past. _ An entirely new suite of apartments is being provided on the garden front for the use of the Princo.

They are five rooms in all, and will all have an air of solid comfort rather than luxury. A private dining room is the chief one.

The bedroom is comparatively small. Ft will be very comfortable and very plainly furnished. His bedroom _at York House is almost Spartan in its simplicity, and the new room will be largely on the same lines. The rooms allotted to the members of the Prince’s household are quite close at hand, and will be linked up by a private telephone system that is to extend over the whole of Marlborough House. A new lift is to be installed here to replace the one that King Edward had put in many years ago for the use of Queen Alexandra.
