MANCHESTER UNITY
Loyal Albion Lodge meeting was well attended, i\.G. Bro! L. Calvert presiding, Guo candidate was initiated. Bro. Coxhead was elected to the office of warden, and Bro. Landreth to the office of guardian. B.G. Bros. Goudie, C. L. Anderson. C. W. Anderson, and J. Wright then took charge of the evening, and provided a good entertainment of musical items and dancing. Smith and Dagg’s band provided the music for the dancing. Bro. Turner also provided music for an old-fashioned dance, which was much appreciated. Miss Jill and bliss Lily Fox delighted tlio.se present with a Highland dance and sailor’s hornpipe to the bagpipe music of Piper Bunting. Supper was served by the Social Committee, headed by P.G. Bro. Kennedy. Loyal Princess Mary Lodge, Caversham, was well attended. New members were proposed. N.G. Sisler Dunlop reported on visits to sister lodges in Invercargill. Words of encouragement wore conveyed by her from the ladies’ lodges of Invercargill, which have been in existence for some years to those doing the pioneer work in similar lodges in Otago. Nominations of new officers were received. A dance, to music supplied by the members, Bro. 0. Riddell acting as M.C., concluded an enjoyable meeting.
Tlie annual hall of the Loyal Alexandra Port Mnlyneux Lodge was a groat success. Jackman's Hall, Romahapa, was filled with a bright crowd, bent on making the most of the occasion. The grand march passed off well, and thereafter dancing went on merrily until the early hours of the morning. The officers all worked hard to make the function enjoyable, and the support given to the ball by members and friends from all parts of the Surrounding district was evidence of the esteem in which tin? lodge is held. Loyal Caversham and Centenary Lodges met in competition for the card shield, there being a good attendance of members at the Caversham lodge room. A keen competition resulted in a win for Caversham by the bare margin of 1 point. A report was presented bv N.G. Bro. Hey on the position of tfie hospital scheme, showing that satisfactory arrangements are being made, and that the scheme will he in operation in July. A representative to the Annual Ball Committee was appointed. An event in whieh considerable interest is regularly taken will eventuate at Milton on Saturday next. The animal competition for a shield to he held by the most efficient rendering of the initiation ceremony by the lodges of Otago south of Milton will be the third occasion on which it has been held. The former competitions have been won by the Queen of Otago Lodge of Ladies. P.P.G. Bro. C. H. Bussell will act in tlie capacity of judge, and the members of the District Executive, together with many visitors from town and country lodges, are expected to bo present. The return of P.P.G.M. Bro. R. S. Black to his homo town is a pleasing matter to those closely interested in M.U. Oddfellowship. This brother, always active in the work of the order, will have much to tell, and in addition to his experiences at Wembley those attending the Loyal Albion Lodge will doubtless hear something of interest relating to the work of the M.U. in the Old Land.
