ARRIVED.—Juno 9. : Wingatui, s.s. (9.30 a.m.), 2,378 tons, jaunay, from Bluff.

Tho Wingatui arrived here this morning from Bluff, and is to sail this evening for Auckland via ports. The Waipori left Bluff last night for Dunedin. She will sail on Friday for Westport and Greyraouth via Tirnaru. The Karetu is to sail to-morrow for Melbourne and Sydney. Tho Waipahi was to leave Wellington to-day tor Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is duo here on Thursday, and will load out for Auckland via ports.

Tho Storm wa.s to leave to-day ior Tirnaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui. It is expected that the lonic will clear Wellington on Thursday lor Southampton and London.

THE FERRY SERVICE. At 6.55 a.m. to-day, tho AVnhino, from 'Wellington, arrived’ at Lyttelton, and passengers and mails connected with the first express. TRANSPACIFIC CARGO SERVICE. The following are particulars of the Union Company’s transpacific cargo service:— AVaitemata, from San Francisco, due at Napier about the middle of June; after discharge of part cargo proceeds ito AVcllington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, Bluff, and New Plymouth. AVairuna was to leave Melbourne on Saturday last for Sydney to complete discharge of ‘Pacific Coast cargo. Leaves Sydney Juno 15 for A'anemivcr via Lautoka, Suva, and Fanning Island. AVaiotapn leaves AA'ellington about, June 9 lor Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharge. Enton wa.s to leave San Francisco on Saturday last for Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. NEW ATLANTIC LINER

, Next October the new White Star liner Laurontic is to he launched at Helfnst, and will he placed in the Mont-roal-Livcrponl passenger service in tho spring of 1927. Not. only will tho new Lanrentic, the second of her name, bo the largest ship in the Canadian fleet of the White Star Line (this lino already includes two outstanding examples of this new typo of liner, the Regina and the Doric), but the T/aurentic will he the largest “ cabin ” steamer in service to Canada, limit in tho limit of dimensions practicable for navigation of the St. Lawrence River, the new vessel is -004 ft long and 75ft wide, and will register 18.700 gross tons. Her displacement, or weight, will ho 26,250 tons. She will have capacity for 600 “cabin’’ and 1,000 third class passengers. Rearing strong resemblance, to her sister-ships in the Canadian trade, and also tho Ponnland (ex Pittsburg), of tho Red Star Line, another of the new stylo liners, the Laurontic will ho wider than any of her class by several foot, and hence will have greater deck space, a valuable asset in a ship devoted primarily to the tourist passenger business. Jn general arrangements the new ship will have, besides the usual accommodation, all the newer features accepted as standard in the modern cabin linof, such as verandah cafe, sports deck, Gymnasium, children’s playroom, and rooms in suites consisting of private sitting room, bedroom, and hath. There are six of these suites on B deck in the choicest location amidships, and they will be furnished, like the rest of tho ship, in a style that a few years ago would have been looked for only in express liners. Practically all the ordinary state rooms have outside light and air, and will be equipped for hot and cold running water. CANADIAN CHALLENGER COMING. Advice received states that the Canadian Challenger was despatched from Halifax on Hay 29 for Auckland. Wellington, Timarii, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. She is expected at Auckland about July 10.

W AIM AN A AT LONDON. Cable advice received states that the steamer Waimana, which loaded m New Zealand and sailed from Wellington on April 20, arrived at London on Thursday evening, June 3. PORT HARDY BAILS. Bound for New York, Boston, and London, the Commonwealth and Dominion Line steamer Port Hardy sailed from Auckland at daybreak on Sunday - She took the following passengers;— Misses J. R. and D. Duncan, Berry, EM., A. 8., and B. V. Lang, Loam, Mesdames I. Duncan, M. F. MacLeod, L. Lang, Mr H. A. Illingworth, and Master K. H. Lang. NORTH SEA PILOTAGE. Information that a new company, known as the “ N.Y. North Sea Pilot Company,” has been founded, is contained in ‘Lloyd’s.’ The Dutch Government has handed over to tho enterprise a pilot schooner which, under the name of North Sea Pilot, will lie off Dungeness, here pilots will be provided for vessels outward or homeward bound. It appears that the company is reckoning principally upon the pilotage of American and Italian vessels. FRANCE’S LARGEST VESSEL. The Ile-de-Francc, of 40,200 tons gross tonnage, recently built for the Havre-Plymouth-New York service, is tho largest vessel flying the French flag. Tlio new liner has an overall length of 793 ft, a beam of 91ft, and her moulded depth is 70ft. She lias nine decks, five of which are continuous. Tho hull is divided into sixteen compartments by fifteen watertight bulkheads. Life-saying_ equipment will include thirty-six lifeboats, two whaleboats, and two motor lifeboats. The latter will be equipped with wireless apparatus. The vessel will ho propelled by Parson’s turbines, developing 52,000 s.h.p. and driving four screws. The total weight of the turbine installation is 1,060 tons.
