RANGITAIKI PLAINS
RICH AMD FERTILE DISTRICT The Rangitaiki Plains, near Whakalane, in the Bay of Plenty, are represented in the Auckland Provincial Court by an attractive series of pie turns which indicate the remarkable fertility of this all-too-littie-known dis triot. There is also a largo hank of flax, prepared by Mr James Hudson, of Thornton, Whakatane, illustrating the very notable phormium tenax grown on the plains, and the possibility of establishing there a branch of the llax industry, which, as the Prime Minister stated the other day, has before it a very promising future. Both tho length and tho texture of the llax are very noteworthy, and it can challenge comparison with anything produced elsewhere in the dominion.
The pictures show largo herds of fine cattle, well-fenced paddocks, intersected by good roads and thriving homesteads.
