93RD HIGHLANDERS’ BAND
YESTERDAY'S DELIGHTFUL CONGEST The perfect weather conditions last night—warm and balmy as a summer evening—very greatly added to the enjoyment of the large and enthusiastic audience attracted by tho delightful concert given by the Band of the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders under the wonder-working baton of Air F. J. Ricketts, It was not till after tho concert that the rain fell, though the inhimnony of tho elements followed somewhat close upon the sweet harmony discoursed by the hand. _ The programme was a long and enjoyable one, and encores were repeatedly and vociferously demanded.
The opening number was the ‘ Great, Big David’ march, beautifully and expressively rendered; and other much appreciated items were ‘The Hungarian Rhapsody ’ and the always welcome overture from ‘ William Toll.’ Bandsman Taylor played in_ most finished fashion the spariding piccolo solo ‘The Lark’s Festival ’; an arresting Scottish suite was given by tho combined pipes and band; and the descriptive piece ‘ In a Persian market ’ was very finely rendered. The introductory and other selections by the pipers were much enjgyed, as also was the Highland dancing by members of the band.
