[The Russell case has boon ono of be. most remarkable and costly, divorce actions on record. It was twice bolero tho Divorce Court. On tho first occasion, in July, 1922, after a trial lasting nine days, the jury dismissed two corespondents who were, named from the suit, but disagreed concerning a man unknown. At the second trial, in March, 1023, Air Russell alleged adultery by bis wife with two co-respon-dents, one of whom was named, and one was not. The jury acquitted the wile of adultery with the named co-respon-dent, who was dimissed from the suit, so that what was left was the question of adultery with a man unknown, and that rested solely upon tlie allegation that Airs Russell' had a child which Air Russell said was not his child, and could not he. After ten days’ hearing tbo jury dismissed tho named co-respondent, hut found Airs Russell guilty of misconduct with a man unknown. It was against, this result Hint Airs Russell s-neeossfully appealed in 1924 to tho House of Lords; hence the subsequent, withdrawal of tho divorce proceedings.]
