Tho old rivals, Petouo and Poneko, met in the Tom Cross benefit match before about 4,000 spectators. _ Potone played a strong team, including tho three Nicholls. Poneko led in tho first spell, 6-0; but in tho second spell, assisted by a wind, Petono ran up a good score, a remarkably good exposition of football being given by Mark Nicholls. He kicked a goal from a mark, converted two tries scored by others, and ■scored two tries himself, converting one. Ho thus secured 15 points out of a total o£ 21 points. CHRISTCHURCH.
