BRITISH GOODS
MESSAGE TO MANUFACTURERS PRIME MINISTER'S ADVICE [Peb united Peess Association.] WELLINGTON, March 15. _ Tho Now Zealand Association of British Manufacturers and Agents recently asked the Prime Minister if he would give a message for manufacturers at Homo, and Mr Coates, in response to tho request, made tho following statement “Nowhere are British goods more welcome than in New Zealand, and tho dominion is the greatest consumer per capita of such goods. By real and substantial preference, both in Customs duties and in the placing of contracts, tho New Zealand Government shows a strong desire to encourage the British manufacturer. It is plain, therefore, that, with proper organisation and with a feeling of goodwill existent, there is a splendid opportunity for tho British manufacturer to expand his business here. Let him make a study of tho requirements of our markets, both a.s to the standard and design of manufactures, and keep in close touch with the importers and buying institutions in the dominion, not only by resident agents, but by personal visits to the dominion.
“ There is no doubt that_ the New Zealand Association of British Manufacturers is doing good work on sound lines in promoting tho prestige of British goods, and that tho organisation is worthy of every encouragement, especially from the manufacturers themselves in tho United Kingdom.”
