FATALLY SHOT
SENSATIONAL POLICE CHASE
SUSPECTED THIEF REFUSES TO
SURRENDER

SYDNEY, March 14. (Received 'March 15, at 1 nun.) The sensational chase of a supposed motor ear thief ended at Richmond to-day, where the suspect (.Desire Lacourt) was shot.
The police had been hot on his tracks for three days. On Saturday morning they saw him driving a suspected sirlen car at Lindfield. They fired several revolver shots as he sped away and escaped, but they believed lie was wounded, as there were blood stains along the route that he took. Later in the day they surrounded a house at Balgowlah, but lie again escaped by lifting the flooring boards i-hen Ihe officers rushed the doors. From there he was traced to the Hotel Richmond. The m-:m fled through the back when the police entered the front. Ho ignored their calls to surrender, and a shot was nred ever his head. Finally a constable shot him through the head. He was sent to hospital, where he died shortly afterwards.
