OTAGO OFFICERS’ CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING The fifth annual meeting of the Otago Officers’ Chib was held in the club rooms, Moray place, last evening. Colonel Barrowclough presided over a fair attendance of members. The annual report stated that the year had closed with all the indications of sustained interest in the club’s aims and activities. The membership, alter all unfinancial members had been struck off the roll, stood at 176. The thanks of members -were due to those officers who had consented to give lectures during the season. It was pointed out that it was becoming increasingly difficult to arrange suitable lectures, as the subjects which had been dealt with became exhausted. During the year three social evenings had been arranged, and were enjoyed by all. In the month of August the club had entertained Vice-Admiral Marvell and the officers of the American destroyer squadron. Very deep regret was expressed at the death of Major-general C. W. Molvill, C. 8., C.M.G., D. 5.0., late G.O.C. the New Zealand Forces. On behalf of the club the president forwarded a telegram ami a letter of sympathy to the dead officer’s widow. It was with regret also that the death of two members was recorded—Captain T. Burt and Lieutenant E. F. Tyson. Colonel Fredric stated that the billiards tournament had been a great disappointment, chiefly owing to players not coming along to play their games at the appointed time. After the adoption of the report and balance-sheet the following officebearers wero elected for the ensuing yearErosidcnt, Major P. H. Bell, D. 5.0.; vice-president. Colonel E. J. O’Neill, D. 5.0., C.M.G.; secretary and treasurer, Major W. J. Worthington; committee—Major A. B. Falconer, Major W. J. Borrie, Captain J. H. W. M'KcOfrey, Lieutenant G. Carter, and Lieutenant R. E. Sleigh. Before vacating the chair, Colonel Barrowclough expressed his thanks for the support the club had given him during his term of office. Major Bell briefly returned thanks for the honor conferred upon him, and moved a vote of thanks to the late chairman for his services. Letters were received from Dr Morringtou and Canon Nevill inviting the members’ attendance, at the Anzac Day services in First Church and St. Paul’s Cathedral. It was decided that, as the official service was being held at First Church, the members attend there,. It was resolved that the subscription he 10s, instead of 15s, for those residing outside a. ten-mile radius of the city, and that those members whoso subscriptions were twelve months in arrears be removed from the roll. It was decided that Colpnol Falla bo thanked for the gift m a photograph, which is to bo placed on the wall of the club. It was decided that a caretaker he engaged to ho in attendance during the evenings. Mr J. ,J. Keniohan moved that nominations for office-bearers be received at the close of tbe lecture season.—The motion was carried. A vote of tbanks to the secretary for bis untiring services closed the mooting.
