Opihi, s.s. (8.25 p.m.), 1,117 tons, Dalglcisli, for Now Plymouth via ports. The Opihi sailed last, night for Oamnru, Timrii’ii, and Lyttelton to_ completel loading for Wellington, Nelson, and New Plymouth. The AVaitemata, from Pacific Coast ports, was to leave Napier to-day tor Lyttelton, Dunedin, Timaru, and New Plymouth. The Kurow will sail al 5 p.m. lor Timarn, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Kamo’s passage to Dunedin was a. .stormy one of over thirty hours. Strong , winds and heavy sens delayed her. She sailed early this afternoon for Napier and Gisborne, via pons. The Waipahi was to leave Auckland to-day for*Wellington, Lyttelton, and' Dunedin. The Kartigi will leave Auckland tomorrow lor Portland, and should clear Portland on Wednesday for New Plymouth, Wellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. The Tredinnick sailed this alternoon for Westport to bunker. Rhe will proceed thence to Sydney to finish discharging her Canadian cargo. The Katoa will lca.vo Lyttelton tomorrow. Rhe should arrive here on Sunday to load out on Monday for Oamarn, Tiiuani. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. The Kareln is now timed to arrive to-morrow from Sydney and Newcastle via Lyttelton and Timaru to unload timber and general cargo. She will sail about Tuesday lor Oam3.ru, Bluff, and Sydney. The' Uplindnlo is expected to arrive to-morrow morning from Wellington to discharge. After landing her cargo she will go to Port Chalmers to have a new propeller fitted, and later she will return to Dunedin to load for Oamarn, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Breeze, which arrived this morning from Lyttelton, will sail at 11 p.m. for Timaru', Lyttelton, AVellmglon, P.icton, and Wanganui. The Cumberland arrived at Auckland at 1 a.m. to-day from Liverpool. Th(? C. and 1). steamer Port Victor is listed to reach Dunedin on or about March 22 to complete discharge of her hardwood cargo from Bunbnry. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.40 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected with the 8.50 a.m. express. BRITISH PASSENGER STEAMERS. ROCK OFF DOG ISLAND. Si The. rock supposed to exist near the Dog Island lighthouse, and which was recently marked on the Admiralty charts,’ was referred to by Mr W. B. Dixon, Bluff, on Tuesday, who said that, although the matter had been mentioned to the Hon. G. J. Anderson, Minister for Marine, during his visit, the Minister had maintained a discreet silence when giving his statement to the Press. • The Gazette notice stated that it was on a report from Captain 11. Davies, of the Kaiapoi, that the rock was charted. Mr Dixon states that Captain Davies received his (Captain Davies’s) information from another. Captain Davies’s informant had been taken down and asked to locate the rock, bnt bad failed to do so. Mr Dixon was confident that the rock, as charted, did not exist, and he was prepared to provide a vessel to search for it. If the rock was located, then he would pay for the hire of the vessel and any labor employed, but if the Marino ‘Department failed to locate the rock, thou the department should pay expenses. “It is important that this rock mystery should be cleared up," concluded Mr Dixon, “ns it is making a vast difference to shipping entering the Strait.”

THE TURAKINA’S ITINERARY. The Federal Company announces an alteration in the loading itinerary of the Turakina, which will now ship cargo for London ns well as West Const ports of Great Britain. The vessel will commence loading at New Plymouth about March 20, and will load at Timaru on March 26, at Lyttelton on March 29, at Wellington mi March 31, and at Auckland on April 9. The Turakina will sail finally from Auckland on April 13 for Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Avomnouth, and London. TUGELA FROM CONTINENTAL PORTS. From Continental ports and Durban via Western Australia, the Norwegian steamer Tugela is expected in New Zealand toward the end of April. She is bringing cargo for discharge at Dunedin. Lyttelton, Wellington, and Auckland. MESS TABLE TALK. The Kauri was recommissioned last week under the command of Captain J. M'Lean, who has with him the following officers: —Mr H. ’A. Brockett, chief officer; Mr F. W. Young, second officer; Mr S. B. Ward, third officer 1 . Mr W. H. Cadwallader has been appointed chief officer of the Kartigi, relieving Mr G. D. Fraser, who has been appointed chief officer of the Kaikorai. Air R. G. Coyte lias been appointed chief officer of the Wahine. Mr G. F. Russell has been appointed third officer of the Kamo, relieving Mr J. A. M'Arthur. Air R. A. Fyfe. superintending engineer for the Huddart, Parker Company, is acting chief engineer of the Ulimaroa in the absence of Mr IT. Croxlord, who has suffered a family bereavement. Air D. Walker, second engineer of the Ulimaroa, is on holiday leave. Air Lockie. third engineer, is acting second, and Afr Bonham has joined the ship as fourth. THE HUNTINGDON’S PROGRAMME. Tho Federal S.N. Company announces the following loading itinerary of tho steamer Huntingdon. She commences ah Port Chalmers on March 17, and thence proceeds to Bluff, Lyttelton, Wanganui. Napier, Gisborne, Auckland, and Wellington to complete. She is duo at Wellington on April 26, and sails finally from that port on April 29 for New York, Boston, Glasgow, Mersey, London, and Avomnouth. THE STEAMER CYGNET. In the Supreme Court. Christchurch, ou Wednesday His Honor Air Justice Rim reserved his judgment in the petition to wind up Cygnet. Ltd. The petition was made hv J. J. Nivejj. and Co., creditor of Cygnet. Ltd., for C 1.354. cost of repairs to the s.s. Cygnet. Air W. J. Hunter appeared for J. J. Niven and Co. and Air J. ITUpham, with him Mr R. Twyneham, for Cygnet, Ltd. When the case was first called on Tuesday Air Upham raised a preliminary objection that Air Cooper, manager of J. J. Niven and Co.,* who signed the petition, had no authority to do re, and that the petition did not conform to the rules of the court. Evidence was given on Wednesday by Robert Edward Russell, of Wellington, a director and secretary of Niven and Go., who said that Cooper had authority to sign the petition. The seal was not affixed to the petition, because it was necessary to affix it in the presence of two directors, and at the time only one was available. VESSELS IN WIRELESS CALL.
